Options for refugees

The University of Tübingen offers a number of options to people who have fled war or political persecution and are registered as refugees in Germany. We offer German courses and several ways to get to know the German university system. We also run programs in which Germans can help refugees directly to adjust to life in Tübingen.

University of Tübingen refugee program/ Language courses

The Refugee Program is a free integration measure for refugees who aim to prepare for a profession or for studies and are starting in winter semester 2017-18. The current program ends in July 2017; a new program starts in October 2017 and runs to July.

  • Apply now for the new University of Tübingen Refugee Program 2017-18!

We offer intensive German courses (levels B1 - C1), intercultural orientation courses in politics, history, “living in Germany,” and intercultural communication. In two semesters, participants may attend a Mini-Training Network for mathematics and science subjects, as well as introductory courses in other academic disciplines.

The program integrates study and advice, a buddy program, courses in Academic English, a debating club and activities in Creative Writing and in Music. It is aimed at helping refugees in more than just academic studies. It also provides trauma therapy and awareness to those who wish it.

A total of 50 participants began the program in winter semester 2016-17, chosen from 100 applications.

If you have questions about the Refugee Program or other measures for refugees at the University of Tübingen, contact Dr. Christine Rubas  or Uschi Kübler-Hampel.

The Refugee Program is sponsored by the DAAD with funds from the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).

In individual cases, the University offers refugees interested in commencing studies the chance to follow up a B1 language certificate with a B2 language course. Apply before:  16 June 2017
